The National Marine Conservation Scholarship (NMCS) was created to provide scholarships to high school seniors who are certified Scuba divers and who are committed to preserving the beauty of the ocean environment.  Each year, NMCS will name three students as National Marine Conservation Scholars (each of whom will receive a $500 scholarship), and will also name additional Finalists or Semi-Finalists.

Applicants will be judged on a combination of an essay; academic and scholastic achievements; extracurricular activities; and commitment to Scuba.  The essay topic for the Class of 2014 is:  “How has my experience with Scuba increased my interest in / awareness of / or commitment to marine conservation?"
